I found this description of its origin from the designer ;
“ TOTEM floor lamp, early 1980s, for LAMIPROGETTI.
TOTEM was initially born from the reinterpretation of an extruded aluminum profile, originally produced by ICAS, to create a series of office furniture that never saw a follow-up. If I remember correctly, it was the first project developed with my friend Umberto Cabini (owner of ICAS in Vaiano Cremasco). Having several extruded bars at his disposal, he asked me to study how to reuse them; thus, TOTEM was born!
Later, LAMIPROGETTI became interested in the product and purchased the design from ICAS. It was the first real commercial success, marking the beginning of a wonderful and intensely satisfying period.
